Summary
“We bring you Evergreen.
Be reborn younger than you are today”
Between mirages and new technologies
A solidarity of women who dream of a complete tomorrow, even alone.
Hormone treatments and the latest nanobot surgery are now available to enhance the bodies of middle-aged and older women after menopause. What happens to the lives of women in their sixties and seventies who have devoted themselves to and depended on men as wives to their husbands, girlfriends to their lovers, and mothers to their sons when they are given superhuman physical strength?
At the age of 67, Noh Bo-geum, a former comedian, settles in a small town in the province. While trying to make ends meet by taking a public works job for the elderly, she is led by her neighbor, a middle-aged woman, to dance with other women in the neighborhood to trot music played by a cultural center instructor. As Bo-geum enjoys the security of friendship and companionship with other women her age, she is offered a surgery that promises to make her joints and muscles many times stronger and restore her youthful, even superhuman, stamina. It's called “Ladies, Take Your Time,” and it promises to turn back time.
After much deliberation, the elderly women who undergo Letheta are surprised to find that their suddenly transformed bodies have changed their minds, their attitudes, and their outlook on the world. They dedicate themselves to helping the elderly and to discipling violence against women, children, and the disabled.
Bojum tries to save a woman who almost falls into a creek after being pushed by her husband for saying they should separate, and they fall together, while the media reports that older women who have undergone the Letheta procedure are dangerous.
Society is torn between dismissing them as freaks and supporting them as righteous, public-spirited heroes.
Bo-geum is ridiculed by her old friends for trying to stay popular by remaining a celebrity, but she laughs at the two women in her neighborhood who are equally welcoming and equally scathing of her new self.
