Summary
The Labor Standards Act of Korea aims to establish minimum standards for employment conditions to ensure the well-being of employees and contribute to the balanced development of the national economy. The Act defines key terms like employees, employers, wages, and work hours, and mandates equal treatment regardless of gender, nationality, religion, or social status. It prohibits forced labor, violence, and intermediary exploitation and guarantees employees' rights to exercise civil rights. The Act applies to all workplaces with five or more employees, with some provisions applicable to smaller workplaces as prescribed by Presidential Decree. Employers are required to publicize the Act and its related regulations to all employees. Oversight and enforcement are conducted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and other relevant bodies.
