The ninth K-Hiphop Awards kicked off over the weekend in South Korea.

"The annual ceremony was held to support rising stars and to spread K-Hiphop culture across the globe."

Since 2013, the Korea Hiphop Culture Association has awarded various artists active in the field of hiphop,.. at the end of every year.
Awards are given to singers, dancers, DJs, graffiti artists, as well as broadcasting producers and directors.
Prizes are also handed out to those who contribute to the promotion of K-hiphop overseas.

Unlike previous years, this year's ceremony emphasized fostering the next generation of hip-hop dancers, with international competition in the pipeline in the next couple of years.

"Breakdancing will become an official Olympic sport at the 2024 Paris Games. So hip-hop is no longer just a hobby. Younger generations must now fight as dancers for their country's honor. This ceremony is also a place where we can motivate and support these dancers."

Younger generations were given the chance to compete in a range of hip-hop dance genres,.. through the so-called 'K-Hiphop Avengers' tournament.
Hip-hop in Korea has emerged as part of mainstream culture among teenagers and young adults, becoming increasingly popular in the media.
The event was held in Seoul this year, however, the association hopes to expand the competition nationwide in 2022, providing opportunities for youths in all parts of the country.
On top of that, officials vowed to set up a long-lasting platform for hip-hop dancers,.. with continued support and close cooperation with private organizations, businesses and the government. Choi Min-jung, Arirang News.
