KOCCA to present immersive, multisensory exhibition, 'Beyond the Reality'
Updated : 2021-12-09 17:31
Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) will hold an immersive, walk-through exhibition titled, "Beyond the Reality," which will offer visitors a multisensory experience of the country's contemporary art.
The purpose of the event is to recognize businesses and artists that showed exceptional talent and creativity in media art projects this year.
The exhibition will be divided into three different zones: projection mapping that turns objects into video displays, experience-based media art and holographic displays using the latest immersive technology.
The projection mapping section features art works that exist at the intersection of science and the imagination. D'strict Holding's "Flower Camellia" and "Underwater," Easy With's "Enter the Wind," about the wind of life, and Science Show's "Dinoqua," about dinosaurs and aquatic animals, will be displayed.
The second part of the exhibition will allow visitors virtual and artificial reality experiences in the artwork. For instance, it will feature "Curious 12 Tales," about monsters, gods and imaginary animals, as well as plants that appear in the old Korean stories; "Purple Learner & Dream Island," inspired by Banwol Island in Sinan County, South Jeolla Province; and "Strange Vintage," based on a performance of Tongyeong Ogwangdae (a masked dance meaning the "Five clowns of Tongyeong").
The third section of the exhibition will showcase the immersive theater performances, "Dream Finder" and "Rhythmiens," which will be performed in virtual spaces of the metaverse.
Kang Yi-yun's immersive projection mapping installation, "Beyond the Scene," which demonstrates how BTS's message extends its influence globally via its loyal fan organization, ARMY, will also be exhibited. This installation was well-received in the "Korea: Cubically Imagined" exhibition held in Paris in July.
Kang's other work, "No Mother Nature," which depicts nature as a dynamic force that can swallow humanity in just a moment, will be featured as well.
In addition, Kwon Ah-ram's media installation, "The Gates," will be presented as a special exhibition.
"This exhibition provides an opportunity for visitors to encounter the immersive works of artists who have a passion for the digital arts," a KOCCA official said. "We will continue to support the industry in offering immersive content so that everyone around the globe can enjoy innovative digital experiences."
The exhibition will run from Dec. 17 to 19 at Sungkok Art Museum in Jongno District, central Seoul. Visitors must purchase their tickets in advance.
Earlier this week, the agency launched KOCCA Music Studio in Seoul. It is tailored for holding online K-pop concerts, video production and virtual fan meetings.
