K-trot, beyond K-pop: Analysis

Trot… is no longer a sub-culture and genre of music exclusively listened to by the older generations. Now there are young Trot singers in their 30s who have passionate fan bases.
A survey by Gallup Korea for "The Most Influential Individuals" in each sector lets citizens choose their favorite celebrities from TV personalities, comedians, actors, and singers.
When it came to the best artist voted by people over the age of 40, Trot singer Lim Young-woong was chosen.
His music video "My Starry Love" was the most viewed music video on YouTube in South Korea this year… beating BTS.
To delve deeper into this phenomenon, in the studio we have Mr. Bernie Cho, President of DFSB Kollective, and connected via ZOOM, culture critic Youngdae Kim.

First, please explain to some of our viewers who may not be very familiar with Trot, what the genre is about.
-And what fuels its popularity.
