'Squid Game' actor O Yeong-su becomes
first S. Korean actor to win Golden Globe award

Player Number One of "Squid Game" has become the FIRST South Korean to win an award at the Golden Globes. 77-year-old actor O Yeong-su has taken home the prize as "Best Supporting Actor" for his screen-stealing role as Oh Il-nam in the smash-hit Netflix series.
"Squid Game" and actor Lee Jung-jae were also nominated in the categories of 'Best Television Series - Drama,' and 'Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama' respectively.
Although they failed to win, it was still the first time that a South Korean show and actor had been nominated for those categories.
But despite the historic moment for "Squid Game" and its stars,.. this year's Golden Globes did not share the triumph.
The Golden Globes is even older than actor O Yeong-su himself having honored widely acclaimed television shows and films for 79 years.
But its host organization,.. the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has recently been laced with criticisms for lack of diversity and allegations of corruption.
The awards ceremony this year, decided to run without its usual Hollywood glitz.
There was no red carpet, no nominees glammed up in their tuxes and gowns, no livecast, and not even a livestream of the event.
Instead, HFPA members announced the winners and posted them on social media.
But it seems like the modest set up of the Golden Globes didn't taint the big win for O Yeong-su.
The actor said to Netlfix on Monday that after he had heard the news of his win he thought to himself for the first time in his life that he's a "fine guy."
He also added that he thanks everyone out in the world with a heart full of love for his family and the scent of Korea's culture.
