Musinsa's second store opened in southern Seoul is becoming a new popular spot for millennials and Generation Z, just over a month after the country's largest online fashion platform opened the store on July 1, according to company officials, Tuesday. About 84,000 people have so far visited the shop.
"After the grand opening of Musinsa Standard Gangnam, 8,000 people visited the shop in the first three days and spent 190 million won ($145,526). In July alone, an average of 2,700 people visited on daily basis," a Musinsa official said.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Musinsa has been expanding its business into the offline market in order to attract new customers of various age groups. It has introduced new item categories such as kids, golf and luxury items.
"The main advantage of having offline stores is that we can get customers' feedback in real time. Also, Gangnam is a place where a lot of people from different regions come, including foreigners. It is an attractive business district for many fast fashion retail firms," the official added.
Musinsa Standard Gangnam is a shopping space where people can experience the fashion company's identity ― not just try on its apparel, but also check out an art exhibition and listen to music.
On the basement and first floors of Musinsa Standard store in Gangnam, there is a 34-meter-tall media wall that displays dynamic three-dimensional art works as well as virtual human "Mu Ah-in" who resembles Musinsa brand model Yoo Ah-in.
In the fitting rooms there, customers can change the color of the lighting according to their preference. Musinsa also installed display screens to which people can connect their smart phones to take photos and upload them on social media.
"We have plans to expand our stores to other parts of the country, mainly metropolitan areas. In the near future, we also wish to advance into overseas markets such as Japan and countries in Southeast Asia," a Musinsa official said.
Meanwhile, Musinsa has become Korea's first online fashion platform to enjoy a business volume worth over 2 trillion won. It plans to go public next year.
