“Storyum” Where All the Stories of the World Gather

One-source multi-use has become a natural trend in the content market. This is the age of creating various contents like movie, drama, and webtoon with one story. At a time when good stories are all the more important, we talked with an official of “Storyum,” a platform linking story creators with content producers.

Q. What kind of platform is Storyum?

A. Storyum is a content market linking creators with competitive ideas with producers looking for new contents. Creators upload their own treasured stories, and producers choose stories they like and propose commercialization to creators.

Q. How do you connect creators with producers?

A. Creators sign up for Storyum in the capacity of creators, and producers and investors or content agencies sign up in the capacity of users. Users have to go through approval procedures for membership. This is intended to help creators upload their contents worry-free. Admission is possible only after going through the procedure of verifying whether they are really content producers. Once admission is completed, they scrutinize various works uploaded by creators and make matching applications in case of favorite works. Then, if creators accept matching applications, the cases go on in such a way that creators and producers communicate separately.

Q. What is the strength of Storyum?

A. All works uploaded on Storyum are best suited for the one-source multi-use formula since creators possess all copyrights. Moreover, creators can show their stories to people who can commercialize them, whereas producers can discover good stories easily.

Q. Is there any other benefit in addition to the creator-producer matching?

A. Storyum selects its recommended stories every quarter and uploads them on the main screen of its home page. If selected as recommended stories, they receive 500,000 won in creation handouts per work and get an opportunity for production of images and videos for story PR. Storyum also offers commercialization consulting services by experts from each field.

Q. We heard that you provide diverse events and contents apart from story registration. What are they?

A. We offer various videos via our Storyum YouTube channel. There is the “Umterview” corner through which questions are asked to writers who are difficult to meet in person, such as Lee Sin-hwa of the SBS drama “Stove League” and Lee Mi-ye of the novel “Dollar Goat Dream Department Store,” on behalf of the creators using Storyum; there is also the “Honey Tip Series” offering useful information with different themes every month. In addition, we upload useful information necessary for creations like copyright information on the Storyum home page regularly.

Q. Are there services for general content consumers?

A. Storyum differs from free serialization platforms where creators show their works to all people because it is where works are uploaded for the purpose of commercialization. Still, we think that general content consumers can be creators at any time. If you approach with the thought that ideas that come to mind while consuming and enjoying contents at ordinary times are uploaded, it will be possible to use it playfully.

Q. Are there any example works created through Storyum?

A. At present, new works are produced in various fields through Storyum like publication, drama, webtoon, performance, and musical. A total of 39 works have come to the world through Storyum so far; The MBC drama “Bad Papa” aired in 2018, and the webtoon “Goddess’s Taste” that is in serial in Kakao Page are typical examples. More works are scheduled to be shown to the world through Storyum in the future.

Q. What is your future plan?

A. “The place where all the stories of the world gather” is the slogan of Storyum. Our primary objective is to let more creators and producers get together by publicizing Storyum more aggressively. Our ultimate aim is to encourage good contents to be created by forming a virtuous cycle wherein good creators meet good producers, and then good producers choose good works. We hope that “Storyum” will remind people of “the place where good creators and producers get together.”

Storyum was coined by attaching “um” to “Story”; it has the meaning of emporium and stadium where stories, shoots, or roots of contents sprout and creators sell stories freely. At present, Storyum provides various kinds of information on contests along with matching between creators and producers. The details can be confirmed via Storyum’s homepage (https://www.storyum.kr/story/main/main.do).
