Renowned South Korean pianist Cho Seong-jin will perform the world premiere of a newly discovered piano piece by Mozart in the composer's hometown in Austria to mark his 265th birthday.

Cho's performance of Mozart’s "Allegro in D," which was only unearthed in 2018, is scheduled Wednesday evening at Salzburg’s Mozarteum Foundation.

The 94-second-long piano piece is thought to date from early 1773 when Mozart, age 17, was traveling in Italy or after returning home to Salzburg.

The Mozarteum Foundation purchased the manuscript from a private collection and then had experts verify it.

The performance will take place on the opening day of this year's Mozartwoche Festival.
