'Minari' Named One of AFI's
10 Best Movies for 2020
Update: 2021-01-26 16:03:29
"Minari," a film about a Korean immigrant family in search of the American dream in the 1980s, was among the American Film Institute(AFI)'s ten best movies of 2020.
Five of the AFI's ten selections for Movies of the Year feature predominantly non-white casts and stories, including "Minari," Chadwick Boseman's last movie "Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom," and animated movie "Soul," starring Jamie Foxx.
Written and directed by Korean-American Lee Isaac Chung, "Minari," which features Steven Yeun, Han Ye-ri and Youn Yuh-jung, has garnered critical acclaim for its vivid and transformative storytelling of a family struggling in a new environment.
The AFI awards for the best ten films and television shows of the past year are chosen by a jury of filmmakers, critics and academics, and is considered an early indicator of which films will do well at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards.
U.S. entertainment media believe the film could garner Oscar nominations for best film, best director, best screenplay and best actor.
The nominations for the Golden Globes are due to be announced next week, with Oscar nominations scheduled for March 15.
