BTS have won the 2020 Global Recording Artist of the Year Award from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, an organization that represents the recorded music industry worldwide. This marks the first time for an Asian act to win the prestigious award. The IFPI applauded the boyband, saying they show the power that music has to people around the world. It said BTS had a huge year, becoming the first Korean pop act to top the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, as well as securing their first Grammy nomination.
