SEOUL, Aug. 5 (Yonhap) -- The Korean comedy film "Pilot," starring Cho Jung-seok, has debuted at the top of the weekend box office, attracting nearly 1.1 million viewers, data showed Monday.

Released Wednesday, "Pilot" drew more than 1.09 million moviegoers during its debut weekend, capturing 54 percent of local box-office revenue from Friday to Sunday, according to the data from the Korean Film Council. The film's cumulative admissions are currently at 1.74 million.

The film follows Jung-woo (Cho), a former star pilot who, after losing his job due to sexist remarks, resorts to disguising himself as a woman in a desperate attempt to revive his faltering career. Assuming his sister's identity, Jung-woo secures a position with an airline and becomes an overnight sensation following a successful emergency landing. However, his -- or rather, her -- newfound fame leads to escalating complications.

"Deadpool & Wolverine," the Hollywood action-comedy, slipped to second place, drawing approximately 261,000 viewers over the weekend.

The animated features "Despicable Me 4" and "Inside Out 2" secured the third and fourth spots, respectively.
