The state-run Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) is seeing tangible results, such as inking format deals with overseas producers and winning awards, through its support for small and medium-sized production companies struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Due to the coronavirus, broadcasting production has gone through hardships more than ever. But despite the circumstances, I extend my respect to the local small and medium-sized production companies for showing a glowing success," Lee Do-hyeong, head of the Broadcasting Division at KOCCA, said in a statement.

"The agency will continue to provide undivided support so the companies can plan and produce quality content and supply it locally and internationally."

The agency announced, Wednesday, that the reality show "My Ranking," which was made as a pilot through its funding program, was picked up by Northern Irish television company Stellify Media.

The Irish company, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Television, inked a format deal with the local production Diturn, known for the hit show "The Masked Singer," and plans to begin production by the latter half of this year.

"I'm thrilled to make such a business deal with the show, before beginning production and broadcasting it in Korea," Diturn CEO Park Won-woo said.

Another show that was made through KOCCA's funding, the documentary "Korean Pork Belly Rhapsody," received two awards ― the highest honor at the Korean Independent Producers & Directors' Association Awards in February and Best TV Program at the Korean Producer Awards on Tuesday.

The documentary, hosted by star chef and franchise business owner Baek Jong-won, delves into Korea's history and methods of cooking pork belly, which has been widely popular in the country for a long time.

The show was aired on TV network KBS, garnering a 4.5 percent viewership rating, and was also released on Netflix.

Its production company ELTV won another funding program to produce another documentary on beef consumption in Korea.
