SM Entertainment, one of the leading entertainment agencies and recording labels in Korea, will partner with MGM Worldwide Television to produce a K-pop audition show to create a U.S.-based male group.

The agency announced, Friday, that it has signed a deal with the U.S.-based company, which produced hit TV shows "The Voice" and "Shark Tank" to launch the show this year.

The audition program will scout talented vocalists from around the world to create a new multinational band under SM's boy group project NCT.

"I look forward to making an unconventional audition show that all music fans around the world can enjoy," SM's head and founder Lee Soo-man said in a statement. "I hope the audience enjoys watching the journey of new stars being born in Hollywood, which will be promoted as NCT-Hollywood in the global market."

Created by Lee, NCT runs on a concept of an umbrella group whose members ― currently 23 members ― can expand and divide into various sub-units. As of now, four sub-groups have been formed under the project: Korea-based groups NCT 127, NCT Dream and NCT U, and China-based WayV.

Any male between the ages of 13 to 25 can apply to compete on the show. The contestants will undergo SM's internal training program in Korea and compete to debut as NCT-Hollywood, a sub-unit to target the global music scene.

"This series is exactly the type of innovative programming that MGM is committed to creating on a global scale," MGM Television chairman Mark Burnett said in a statement. "K-pop is more than a genre of music; it's a cultural phenomenon and we're so excited to partner with the incredible Soo-Man Lee and the team at SM to bring K-pop to the U.S."
