TvN's new series "Mine" took off to a positive start, Saturday, scoring the network's sixth-highest viewership rating for a series premiere.

The series' first episode saw a 6.6 percent rating nationwide and a 7.9 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area.

Directed by Lee Na-jeong, whose works include KBS's "Fight for My Way" and Netflix's "Love Alarm," the drama revolves around two daughters-in-law ― Seo-hyun (Kim Seo-hyung) and Hee-soo (Lee Bo-young) ― of a high-profile conglomerate owner family. Amid the lying and cheating behind the family's front of an affluent lifestyle, the two battle against prejudice to find their own identities.

The series is penned by writer Baek Mi-kyung, who is known for the TV series "Strong Girl Bong-soon" and "The Lady in Dignity."

Kim who plays the wife of the family's first son said the series resonated with her from the start. "I came across Mine at the time when I personally had thoughts about what it means to find my own way in life," she said during the online media conference of the series, Friday.

"I decided to take part because I was curious about how the director and writer would draw my character's journey to self-realization."

Mentioning her previous mega-hit series "SKY Castle," which also followed the story of privileged families, she compared her roles in the two series. "In the previous series, I was a tutor of wealthy privileged students. So with this role, I was put in this environment as part of those families, which felt really awkward at first," she said. "I tried to make the right look that fits with and gets me into the role."

Actress Lee Bo-young plays a self-confident, top actress Hee-soo who had to halt her successful acting career when she married into a wealthy family. "Until now, my characters have been realistic, ordinary people because they were easier to portray. But this time, it is set in a different world, which I felt curious about," she said. "I was worried if I could blend in well but it was such an interesting script I had to join."

She added that the key of this series is the chemistry between the actors and the subplots revolving around the family. "The reason I took the role is that I liked how this series is not just about one lead character. I have high hopes about the harmony the actors will make throughout the story," she said.

Director Lee also noted that the series will follow the highs and lows in people's lives. "When I first read the script from the writer, the first impression was that the story is colorful…it talks about the values surrounding a person," she said.

She expressed that she hopes to show the two lead actresses in a different light as the characters they play are a far cry from those they have played in the past. "I was motivated to pull out different aspects of the actresses. With Lee Bo-young, the viewers will be able to see her playing a bright, lighthearted character," she said. "For Kim Seo-hyung, she has done a lot of powerful, charismatic characters, but I tried to capture the soft side of her character, like deep, subtle sentiments from her eyes."

"Mine" airs on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 p.m.
