The MBN series "Bossam: Steal the Fate," starring Kwon Yu-ri and Jung Il-woo, is enjoying a surge in its viewership rating, soaring to 6.3 percent on Saturday.

The period romance series, which started with a 3.1 percent rating on May 1, saw viewership jump only three episodes into the series and continue increasing by about one percent each episode since the beginning. It also recorded the highest series premiere rating in the cable network's history.

The series, directed by Kwon Seok-jang, who is known for helming the hit 2010 rom-com series "Pasta," has garnered popularity from both older and younger viewers with its period-setting plot and solid acting by its cast, including K-pop singer-turned-actress Kwon, a member of Girls' Generation. It was co-written by scriptwriters Kim Ji-soo and Park Chul.

The series, which is set in the 1392-1910 Joseon Kingdom, revolves around an old custom called "bossam," in which a bachelor would secretly kidnap a widow in a blanket to make her his wife. During those days, widows were prohibited from remarrying.

The story follows the lower class Bau (Jung Il-woo), who carries out "bossam" abductions for noblemen so he can make a living and support his son by himself. One day, he brings in a widow on a bachelor's request, but he mistakenly kidnaps Princess Soo-kyung (Kwon Yu-ri), who lost her husband on her wedding day.

Bau's mistake brings the two together, giving Soo-kyung a taste of freedom and a glimpse of the world outside the palace.
