The 74th Cannes Film Festival has rolled out the red carpet for the first time in more than two years, with the South Korean film director of "Parasite" opening it as a special guest.
Standing alongside this year's honorary Palme d'Or winner Jodie Foster and Spike Lee, who is leading the Cannes jury this year, Bong Joon-ho said there's never been a time when the movie industry has come to a halt.
He said it was unfortunate the festival was cancelled last year due to the pandemic. Two South Korean actors - Song Kang-ho of "Parasite" and Lee Byung-hun - will also be in France for the festival.
Song is a member of the competition jury, along with other film heavyweights. Lee will present an award at the closing ceremony on July 17th.
