- Will Korea's world-first law to regulate Apple, Google's power over app store hurt or benefit consumers?
South Korea has passed the world's first law to limit Google and Apple's policies that require the use of their payment systems for app developers. This means developers will no longer be forced to pay the up to 30 percent commission to the two tech giants. Also, the Korean government plans to mediate disputes over payment and purchases in the app market.
Proponents of this law say it will expand opportunities for developers to grow, as well as benefit customers, while critics argue the opposite.
