BTS Gives Speech, Unveils Taped Performance at UN Event
Updated: 2021-09-21 13:43:20
K-pop band BTS unveiled a prerecorded video performance of its latest hit single "Permission to Dance" during an event at the United Nations.
The song released in July conveys hopes for an end to the pandemic and the message that "you don't need permission to dance." The performance was recorded in and outside UN headquarters.
The boy band flew to New York to attend the UN General Assembly's Sustainable Development Goals(SDG) Moment event as youth representatives and a special presidential envoy for future generations and culture.
Before the taped performance, the band took to the stage and delivered a speech urging global youth to brim with positive energy despite the pandemic. All seven members took turns speaking in Korean, which included sharing their experience receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
The SDG Moment event aired live on the UN's official YouTube channel drew close to one million simultaneous viewers. This is the third time the globally popular boy band has addressed the UN General Assembly.
In 2018, the band's leader RM spoke at a UNICEF event announcing a global partnership titled "Generation Unlimited" during which he urged young people to love themselves and raise their voices.
Last year, BTS spoke virtually at a health security conference and cheered on future generations with the message, "Life goes on. Let's live on."
