SBS's upcoming TV series "Let Me Be Your Knight" will put the limelight on the struggles and personal lives of K-pop stars off the stage.

Starring actors Lee Jun-young and Jung In-sun as the leads, the romantic comedy series revolves around a globally successful K-pop singer Tae-in (Lee), and a tour guide Yoon-joo (Jung).

Tae-in is a musical genius and the leader of a popular K-pop quintet called Luna ― whose members are played by actor Jang Dong-joo and K-pop singers Yoon Ji-sung, JR of NU'EST, and Kim Dong-hyun of AB6IX.

But he has a secret: he sleepwalks. One day, an incident leads Yoon-joo to move into the house, where Tae-in is living with the group members and becomes a live-in doctor to help cure his condition secretly.

"The series started by imagining 'What would happen if I were to live with a K-pop star that I like?'," the series' director Ahn Ji-sook said during an online press conference, Thursday. "And when I actually met with the idol singers and interviewed them, they were having a much more normal life than what we've fantasized, like how people of their age would normally live. So I wanted to shed light on the K-pop stars' lives behind the stage."

Jung plays a highly attuned, outgoing person who has no interest in K-pop music and its stars.

"The concept and my role in this series were very unfamiliar to me, like idol singers and live-in doctors. And when I told the director, she said that is exactly what she was looking for in Yoon-joo," she said. "I liked how 'Let Me Be Your Knight' is about sleep. Everyone has their own struggles and lives with a different pain. So I like stories of people healing one another, which is what this series is about."

Lee, who is a former member of the disbanded boy group U-Kiss, noted that he had to study music to portray the musical genius.

"I would get myself used to using programs for music composing and would ask questions to my friends who are still in the music industry. Also, I tried to get comfortable using professional jargon to get into character," he said.

The actor noted that the series will have a well-plotted portrayal of K-pop stars through each member of the fictional group Luna.

"Each character in the series is very well created… it would be interesting to see how (K-pop stars) live in real life and what they go through," he said.

Jang added that that the viewers will be able to resonate with the characters' lives. "Whenever there's a strong light, it's accompanied by a darker shadow. It's like how the life of big stars can look cool but when you look at it from a different angle, they also have a nerdy, petty, and funny side, as well as an emotional side, which will appeal to viewers," he said.

K-pop singers Yoon, JR, and Kim are taking their first shot at acting with this series.

The stars expressed their excitement about their acting debut. "It was very difficult. Since this was the first time I've attempted acting, there were a lot of things to get used to, like acting on the set. But fortunately, the director, staff, and co-stars guided me and helped create a comfortable environment for me. I feel that working on this has helped me to grow a lot," JR said.

Yoon added that he is also learning a lot from working on the set.

"As this is my first series, I've tried hard to prepare for it, like I would go through all the series and videos that would help me for this project. And I've realized that it's important to communicate with staff, the director, and co-stars and it's been a while since I had to live with group members, so doing that in the series allowed me to take a trip down memory lane," he said referring to his time with former boy group Wanna One.

Kim noted that although he had a hard time settling into a completely different environment than what he is used to, the experience has been interesting since he can compare his actual K-pop life with the fictional one.

"I was worried because I thought it would be a whole different experience. But I'm glad that I was able to learn a lot from it," he said. "I am actually living together with my group members so it was fun to see what parts were similar to real life and what parts are different," he said.

"Let Me Be Your Knight" is set to air on Sunday at 11 p.m.
