BTS win Artist of the Year at 2021 AMAs
K-pop sensations BTS have been named Artist of the Year at the 2021 American Music Awards.
Not only are they the first K-pop artists, they are the first artists from Asia to win the grand prize at one of America's biggest music awards.
They beat other nominees such as Drake, the Weeknd, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift to win what is arguably the highlight of the fan-voted AMAs.
During the acceptance speech, BTS thanked their fans, ARMY, across the world for their continued support, and added that the "award opened the beginning of a new chapter."
This title was the group's third win of the night.
They also won Favorite Pop Duo or Group award once again, having previously won it in 2019 and 2020, as well as Favorite Pop Song for their mega-hit "Butter".
BTS have brought home at least one award from this annual music event since their first nomination back in 2018.
The group also performed their Billboard-winning song "Butter" at the show.
And they were joined by British rock band Coldplay for their first ever live joint performance of "My Universe".
BTS already made history at the Billboard Music Awards in May, winning four trophies thanks to their hit song "Dynamite".
Now all eyes on whether they can get nominated for the Grammys which are announced on the 24th Korea Time. Choi Min-jung, Arirang News.
