In an interview with French daily Le Figaro, South Korea's Culture Minister Hwang Hee said the Squid Game craze happening around the world is an extension of the immense popularity K-POP sensations BTS are enjoying.
The minister added that the Korean Wave is now going beyond K-pop and K-dramas to include the Korean way of life, like K-beauty and K-food.
He brought up strong government support as one reason behind its success as the country invests roughly a billion U.S. dollars a year to support artists without interfering with their work.
According to the ministry, Korea's cultural exports last year were worth 10.8 billion dollars, a twelve percent increase from two years earlier.
