From the development of functional materials to AI-powered smart factories and garment sustainability, the convergence of technology and fashion is reshaping commercialization strategies across the industry.
This interview was conducted with Professor Lee, Su-Hyun of the Department of Fashion and Textiles, Seoul National University, a leading authority in textile and fashion technology research and education.
Under the theme “Digital Transformation of K-Fashion and Commercialization Strategies for Smart Apparel Technologies,” the discussion explores the present and future of advanced textile technologies, as well as industry–academia collaboration models aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of Korea’s textile and fashion sector.
Professor Lee brings extensive hands-on experience spanning industry, research institutions, and academia, having worked with functional material companies, the R&D Center of the Korea Outdoor Sports Industry Association, and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology.
Her primary research focuses on multifunctional apparel materials and smart clothing based on conductive fibers, with particular emphasis on establishing robust validation frameworks to ensure the safety, reliability, and commercial viability of smart apparel, alongside advancing sustainability in fashion.
