Detail
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea and Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology convened the '2024 Korea-Japan Intergovernmental Copyright Conference and Seminar' in Seoul on July 4-5. The event's primary focus was on navigating copyright policies in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).
Held annually and alternating between the two countries, the conference stems from the "Korea-Japan Memorandum of Understanding on Copyright Exchange and Cooperation" signed in 2011. This year’s sessions featured in-depth discussions on contemporary copyright challenges, the balance between protecting copyright and encouraging utilization in the face of rapid technological advancements, and examined global trends in these areas.
Key discussion topics included enforcement activities, performance rights collection and distribution, and expanding mutual management contracts between the two nations' copyright management organizations. Korea also showcased its comprehensive systems for copyright business support and infringement response, which drew considerable interest from the Japanese delegation, impressed by Korea’s long-established digital copyright transaction services.
