The Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) is set to host the inaugural '2024 World Webtoon Festival' from July 26 to 29 in Seoul's Seongsu-dong area. Co-organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the festival aims to highlight the global appeal of Korean webtoons and bolster Korea’s standing as a premier webtoon-producing country.
The event will feature 16 renowned webtoon companies showcasing a variety of webtoon-related merchandise and interactive exhibits. Key participants such as Daon Creative, Big Picture Team, Story Punch, CNC Revolution, Mstoryhub, YLAB, and Kenaz will host pop-up stores at the Sfactory Building D. Additionally, international platforms like Naver Webtoon and Kakao Entertainment will provide unique experiences, including caricature drawings and digital media interactions.
Signaling the start of the festival, the 'World Webtoon Awards' will recognize outstanding contributions to the webtoon industry and elevate the status of webtoons on a global scale. Acting President of KOCCA, Hyun Suk-yoo, affirmed that the festival would offer a chance to experience a wide range of globally competitive Korean webtoons, while pledging continued support for the international expansion of Korean webtoon intellectual property.
