Detail
KT SkyLife is pioneering the use of AI technology to revolutionize sports broadcasting, significantly cutting down costs. By integrating AI unmanned cameras developed by HoGak, a firm in which SkyLife recently invested 6.8 billion KRW to acquire a 24% stake, the company anticipates savings of up to 90% in production expenses.
HoGak's advanced broadcasting utilizes Pixellot's AI camera system from Israel, which automates the filming and editing of game footage, drastically minimizing the need for human staff. According to the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Promotion (IITP), AI cameras can slash production costs by as much as 90%, while the World Football Summit (WFS) expects up to an 80% reduction and a significant boost in video content creation.
SkyLife plans to leverage these cost efficiencies to cater to niche markets such as amateur and less popular sports. Starting July 21, in collaboration with HoGak, SkyLife will exclusively broadcast the 2024 Seoul Homeless World Cup, an event supported by FIFA to promote self-reliance among individuals experiencing housing insecurity. The matches will be streamed on HoGak's app, FIFA Plus, and Naver Sports. Looking ahead, SkyLife intends to introduce game analysis, personal video editing, sports education, and cloud-based game video storage services.
