Kakao Entertainment introduced its innovative 'ALIVE' technology at the 2024 World Webtoon Festival. The festival took place from June 26 to 29 in Seoul, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism with support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, aiming to enhance the global recognition of Korean webtoons. The 'ALIVE Exhibition' was featured at the festival's largest venue, S-Factory, spotlighting how this technology transforms 2D webtoons into dynamic, animated content.
The 'ALIVE' technology enriches traditional webtoons by adding motion graphics and dynamic screen transitions, offering a more engaging viewing experience with the 'ALIVE viewer.' Festival attendees had the opportunity to explore a variety of exhibition zones that showcased the technology, including demonstrations, video presentations, production insights, and interactive experiences. This advancement makes webtoon characters appear animated on mobile devices, enhancing the viewer's experience.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Kakao's IPs achieved major recognition at the World Webtoon Awards, securing wins in every category. 'Solo Leveling' was honored with the Grand Prize, while 'The Great' took home the Jury Award. Kakao's CEO, Kisu Kwon, highlighted that these accolades underscore the creativity and international appeal of their webtoons, committing to advancing the global influence of the webtoon industry.
