Detail

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (MCST) has outlined a new initiative to bolster support for AI-driven, console, and indie games to solidify South Korea's position in the global gaming industry. This initiative, revealed in a report to the National Assembly's Committee on Culture, highlights a strategic pivot towards emerging market opportunities.
For the first time, the MCST is incorporating AI game development support into its industry strategy, complementing its ongoing efforts to promote console and indie games under its 2024-2028 comprehensive game industry promotion plan. The report also underscores the importance of player protection and regulatory advancements, citing achievements like mandatory transparency in probability-based item information and joint efforts with law enforcement agencies and the Fair Trade Commission to uphold fairness and prevent fraud.
Moreover, the ministry is considering the phased transfer of game rating responsibilities to private entities and plans to refine these standards by year-end. In a National Assembly audit, Minister Yoo In-chon introduced a new 600 billion won private-led K-content strategy fund, aimed at bolstering South Korea's content industry further.
