On the 16th, the Media Future Vision Forum convened at the Korea Press Center to explore strategies that could enhance the competitiveness of domestic media platforms amidst the growing influence of artificial intelligence. The seminar, titled 'Creating a Creative Content Virtuous Ecosystem Among Media Platforms (Press, Broadcasting, Internet) in the AI Era,' delved into the evolving roles and challenges that media sectors must address in response to rapid AI advancements.
Koo Jong-sang, Executive Director of the Media Future Vision Forum, stressed the importance of updating existing broadcasting and internet multimedia laws through new legislation in the 22nd National Assembly. Additionally, Professor Yang Chang-kyu from Seoul Venture Graduate School pointed out the growing issue of media platforms skirting their social responsibilities, particularly criticizing YouTube for not being accountable in the distribution of harmful content.
The forum also discussed the necessity of supporting a merger between domestic online video services Tving and Wavve, to elevate their competitive position against global OTT giants. Roh Chang-hee from the Digital Industry Policy Research Institute advocated for the expansion of domestic OTT services to prevent foreign market dominance, suggesting that a merger could reduce competitive pressures and enhance the return on content investments.
