LG Uplus has enhanced its metaverse platform, UVERSE, tailored for university settings by integrating real-time AI translation capabilities. This advancement leverages AI technologies, including speech recognition, machine translation, and speech synthesis, to convert spoken language into text and instantly translate it among Korean, English, and Chinese. The feature is specifically designed to meet the needs of foreign students, enriching their online lecture experience.
The introduction of this translation feature aims to increase foreign student participation in university activities by offering live translations for English-based classes into Korean and Chinese. This innovation is projected to boost the efficiency of online lectures and enhance interactions between international and domestic students, creating a more inclusive learning environment.
Currently, the AI translation service is in its trial phase at Sookmyung Women's University and Soonchunhyang University, with plans for broader expansion to more institutions in the future. LG Uplus is also launching a virtual space named U Street, where students can connect based on shared interests, irrespective of their university affiliations. Additionally, 3D pop-up stores are being set up to enable companies to engage directly with the student population.
