The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea and the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines are set to host the "2024 Korea-Philippines Intergovernmental Copyright Meeting and Forum" in Manila on July 24. Korea’s partnership with the Philippines in copyright dates back to 2011, with notable milestones including the establishment of the Copyright Office in the Philippines in 2012 and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on copyright cooperation in 2014.
This year's meeting aligns with the "2nd Philippine International Copyright Summit" and plans to cover four key topics: trends in copyright legislation, collective rights management systems, countermeasures to illegal distribution, and collaborative strategies. There will be a strong emphasis on harnessing the Philippines' capabilities to block websites engaged in the illegal distribution of Korean content.
Marking its 14th occurrence, the "Korea-Philippines Copyright Forum" will focus on "Empowering Creators' Rights and Content Protection in the Digital Age." Prominent South Korean organizations, including the Korea Copyright Commission and Korea Creative Content Agency, will share insights on copyright education and industry development. The goal is to assist the Philippines in enhancing its copyright framework by drawing on Korean expertise, while fostering a stronger collaborative relationship between the two nations.
