Speaking at the '2024 International OTT Forum' in Seoul, Disney reaffirmed its commitment to investing in South Korea, a rapidly emerging leader in the global entertainment industry and a wellspring of creative innovation in the Asia-Pacific region. Carol Choi, Disney’s Head of Original Content Strategy for the Asia-Pacific, emphasized Disney’s plans to continue its investment efforts, focusing on developing premier Korean content in the years ahead.
Choi, who has a background as the head of Walt Disney Company Korea, mentioned that Disney is dedicated to fostering long-term partnerships with Korean content producers, building on a foundation of over three decades of collaboration. She noted that nine out of the 'International Original TOP 15' titles on Disney+ are Korean, highlighting Korea's pivotal role in enhancing Disney's storytelling excellence.
The forum, now in its third year, brought together key players from both domestic and international OTT platforms, such as Disney, Wave, Tving, and Coupang Play. Discussions spanned a range of topics, including technology, content, and policy issues, with a particular emphasis on urging global media companies to comply with local taxation policies.
