On November 4th, the city of Suncheon announced a significant development in their cultural landscape—leading webtoon companies KENAZ and ONO Korea are set to establish operations in the area. KENAZ, known for its extensive roster of over 450 webtoon creators and a portfolio of 250 intellectual properties, intends to relocate its Jeju and Seoul offices to Suncheon by mid-2025, bringing approximately 50 employees along.
ONO Korea, a venture jointly founded by KENAZ and the French media group MPP, will shift its activities from Seoul to Suncheon by year-end. The initial move will include five staff members, with future plans to expand their team to 20. With these relocations, the companies aim to bolster global webtoon production and distribution efforts and focus on developing local talent from their new headquarters.
This move is part of Suncheon's wider strategy to foster an animation and webtoon cluster, a plan recently endorsed by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Mayor Noh Kwan-gyu highlighted the town's commitment to supporting KENAZ and ONO Korea in their growth as influential players in both the regional and global cultural content markets.
