Naver Webtoon is expanding its intellectual property (IP) value chain by producing over 28 video projects, turning webtoons into dramas and films. Leading this initiative, its subsidiary Studio N has achieved significant success, notably with the drama 'Jung Nyeoni,' which saw its viewership ratings rise from 4% in the premiere to over 13% by episode six. This highlights the potential of webtoons in the K-content market, thanks to their cost-effective and user-friendly origins.
This year, Naver Webtoon has broadened its media influence through numerous collaborations and productions. Ongoing projects include ‘The Eighth Sense’ on Netflix, ‘Yumi's Cells’ for theater, and ‘True Beauty’ on Crunchyroll. Future endeavors such as ‘The Square’ and ‘Trauma Center’ for Netflix are anticipated, alongside major partnerships like the Japanese remake of ‘Nevertheless’ and the animated series ‘Gosu’ with global partners.
Studio N's revenue has surged, increasing from 8.4 billion KRW in 2021 to over 83 billion KRW in 2023. Naver Webtoon intends to further enhance its storytelling business by transforming popular webtoons into films, games, and merchandise, capitalizing on the thriving popularity and diverse narrative potential of webtoons.
