The webtoons 'Secret Relationship' and 'Relife of the Sword King' are set to be transformed into video content through a partnership between Korean and Japanese companies. Kakao Entertainment revealed on the 13th that it will jointly produce 'Secret Relationship' into a drama alongside Japan's Fuji TV and the content studio Playlist. Filming for the drama commenced on the 9th, with a targeted release in the first quarter of next year.
'Secret Relationship' is a widely acclaimed BL webtoon that details Daon's journey through entangled relationships with his colleagues and friends, forming an intriguing love triangle. The webtoon has achieved 170 million views worldwide, notably in North America, Japan, and Korea. Directed by Yang Kyung-hee and penned by Lee Yoo-jin, this adaptation is part of a strategic initiative to amplify global content influence.
In a similar vein, 'Relife of the Sword King' is being adapted into an animated series through a collaboration with Korea's Red Dog Culture House and Japan's esteemed Pierrot studio. This webtoon narrates the adventures of a swordsman in an alternate universe. Kakao Entertainment emphasized the importance of these projects in reinforcing the global impact of webtoons as a vital content genre.
