Blockbuster Console Games Reshaping the Korean Gaming Landscape

Detail

Korean game companies, traditionally focused on mobile and MMORPGs, are finding success in the Western console game market. This shift raises the question of whether the previously console-averse Korean gaming industry can reshape the market landscape.
The Korean government has announced its intention to focus on fostering the console game industry. Following the success of last year's hits like "Lies of P" and "Dave the Diver," this year's release of "Stellar Blade" continues the trend of successful Korean console games. The government’s support is expected to increase the number of console games targeting the global market.
Major game companies are also focusing on the console market, aiming to penetrate Western markets. NCSoft recently launched early access for "Battle Crush," a brawler action game combining battle royale and action genres, which supports cross-play on Nintendo Switch, Steam, and mobile. Nexon, following the success of "Dave the Diver," released the console shooting action game "First Descendant" on October 2, which has shown high anticipation from Western gamers even before its release.
