- To support the successful overseas expansion of domestic online video service (OTT) providers, a forum has been organized to enhance domestic and international networking and explore future directions for the industry.
- The Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission (BMCC) hosted the “2025 Global OTT Forum” on November 6 in Seoul, bringing together over 400 participants from the global media industry, academia, and related sectors to discuss and share sustainable innovation strategies for the OTT ecosystem.
- Under the theme “The New Chapter of Streaming,” the forum featured leading global and domestic OTT players including Warner Bros. Discovery, TikTok, Tencent Video, TVING, and Coupang Play, who joined as keynote and session speakers.
- Across seven sessions, speakers presented innovative strategies for achieving sustainable growth in the evolving OTT landscape shaped by advances in artificial intelligence (AI).
- In the keynote address, James Gibbons, President and Managing Director of Warner Bros. Discovery Asia-Pacific, outlined streaming, storytelling, and franchise growth strategies for the Asia-Pacific region.
In a special session, Isaac Bess, Head of Global Distribution Partnerships at TikTok, introduced TikTok’s strategy for market expansion.

- In the final session, academic and industry experts discussed the growing threat of illegal content distribution and countermeasures to protect the global competitiveness of K-content.
- Now in its fourth year, the Global OTT Forum has been held annually since 2022 to share insights into global market trends and provide business collaboration opportunities for domestic and international OTT companies seeking to expand overseas.
- This year’s event was particularly significant as it took place amid a period when OTT platforms are reshaping the entire content value chain—from production and distribution to consumption—driving innovation across the global media industry.
- The BMCC expressed hopes that the insights and discussions shared during the forum will further contribute to the industry’s growth and announced plans to strengthen institutional support and policy frameworks to enhance the global competitiveness of Korean OTT (K-OTT), a key driver in establishing Korea as a leading cultural powerhouse.
