Detail
An amendment to the Game Industry Promotion Act has been introduced in the 22nd National Assembly to penalize users of illegal 'game hacks.' On the 6th, Representative Kim Sung-won of the People Power Party proposed the legislation to protect honest gamers and promote a healthier gaming industry.
Currently, the Game Industry Promotion Act imposes imprisonment or fines on those who distribute, produce, or circulate unauthorized computer programs, devices, or illegal game content that disrupt the industry. However, there is no legal basis to penalize users of these illegal programs, resulting in significant harm to the industry.
The proposed amendment seeks to close this gap by introducing fines for those who intentionally use illegal programs. Representative Kim's office stated that these measures are intended to support the healthy development of the gaming industry.
