Detail
The Korea Character Culture Industry Association (KCCIA) has rolled out a collective trademark to reduce the high costs associated with trademark applications and genuine product certification labels. This new collective mark, designed to certify product quality, is available exclusively to KCCIA member companies.
The KCCIA has designated a range of items commonly linked with character intellectual property (IP)—including notebooks, stickers, pens, phone cases, keychains, bags, clothing, dolls, and toys—as eligible for the collective trademark. Members receive 5,000 holographic labels for individual use and 10,000 for corporate use, with expansion plans for more items based on member feedback and needs.
By adopting the collective trademark, members bypass the expenses of separate trademark applications and label issuances. Additionally, the KCCIA provides legal support and protections during trademark disputes, offering a well-rounded solution for its members. Chairman Lee Won-hee highlighted that the collective trademark streamlines the otherwise complex and costly trademark registration process, especially benefitting individual artists and small businesses.
