Interview with Choi, Min Geun PD at MBC
As AI reshapes industries across the board, its influence is also being felt in the creation of variety
entertainment. In a field where creativity is the core driver, what role can AI play in variety content?
To explore this question, we spoke with Min geun Choi, veteran PD at MBC, who has been shaping
the history of Korean variety shows for over two decades.
Choi studied film and directing at Sogang University, the City University of New York, and the University of
London, and his early documentary The Power of Poop won the Grand Prize at the Seoul International
Environmental Film Festival, earning him recognition for both talent and experimental spirit.
His career spans flagship programs such as Infinite Challenge, Real Men, Music Core, and Wild Idol.
In 2023, he broke new ground by directing The PD Has Disappeared, the world’s first AI produced variety
show, opening an entirely new horizon for entertainment.
In this interview, under the theme “AI: The New Creative Partner of K-Variety,” he shares in depth insights
into the future of content created in collaboration between AI and humans.
