Interview with Lim, Duk-Young Writer & CEO at Flyingtoon
K-Webtoons have emerged as a core IP powerhouse driving the global content industry.
Behind their explosive growth stand visionary creators who expand stories beyond the page -- transforming
characters and brands into multidimensional experiences.
In this interview, we spoke with Lim, Duk-Young, CEO and writer of Flyingtoon, who has dedicated over
20 years to comics, webtoons , and character creation. As the creator of ToonToy, Korea’s first comic based
platform toy, Lim shared insights into the evolution of K-webtoons from “readable” content to
“experiential” and “collectible” IPs, redefining how global audiences engage with stories.
Having produced more than 30 children’s comic titles, Lim has focused on the convergence of comic
exhibitions and character production. Through ToonToy, he successfully demonstrated a tangible
IP expansion model -- hosting pop-up exhibitions at Hyundai Department Store and being invited to
Comic-Con in the United States, marking major milestones in bringing K-webtoon IPs into the physical world.
