Interview with Kim, Han Jae, Comic & Webtoon Professor at Gangdong Univ.

K-webtoons , now a major force in the global content market, are entering a pivotal stage driven by rapid advances in AI.

Beyond simple production assistance, AI is accelerating creation and raising quality, reshaping the industry’s

competitive landscape.

For this interview, we spoke with Kim, Han-Jae, Professor in the Department of Comic and Webtoon Content

at Gangdong University.

Actively involved in AI Toon projects with major institutions such as the Korea Creative Content Agency,

she has also introduced new creative models through works like Creating Webtoons and Comics with AI.

We discussed how AI is transforming the industry, the skills required of AI native creators, and strategies to

strengthen the global competitiveness of K-webtoons.

Professor Kim studied Cartooning at New York’s School of Visual Arts and later earned a master’s in

Animation and a PhD in Emotional Engineering in Korea. Connecting industry and academia, she continues

to work as both a researcher and practitioner.
