Solo Leveling' took home the grand prize at the inaugural World Webtoon Awards, an event aiming to become the Cannes of the webtoon industry. This prestigious ceremony took place at SFactory in Seongsu-dong, Seoul. It was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in conjunction with the Korea Creative Content Agency, with the announcement made on September 26.

Originally a web novel, 'Solo Leveling' tells the gripping story of Sung Jin-Woo's journey from being weak to becoming the world's mightiest hunter. The series has captivated audiences on a global scale, accumulating 14.3 billion views and inspiring adaptations into books, games, and animations. Another highlight was 'The Great,' by creators Gwangjin and Jimin, which earned the jury chairman's award for its portrayal of Yoo Bo-ra as a dedicated mother and family leader.

The World Webtoon Awards celebrate significant contributions to the webtoon industry, offering recognition across several categories. Led by the esteemed cartoonist Lee Hyun-se, a diverse panel of jurors selected the recipients on September 8. In a nod to Korea's prominent role in this creative field, the government plans to boost the 2024 budget for the webtoon industry by 4.6 billion KRW to a total of 29.5 billion KRW, focusing on global webtoon IP production and the development of local content.
