And at every major 'rite of passage'—a child’s birth, the 100th day, the first birthday, weddings, and the 60th birthday celebration—the most meaningful food on the table is always 'tteok'
When white rice transforms into rice cake—rising, steaming, and slowly becoming tender—the warm, nutty aroma carries our joys and sorrows, our anger and laughter, and the hopes we don’t always know how to put into words. From a humble grain, tteok becomes endlessly elegant and diverse—thanks to ancestors who believed food should hold the heart as much as it holds flavor.
