Single mother Joy Sun, who gave up her career as a web designer to sell insurance in order to pay for her suddenly ill daughter’s hospital bills, reluctantly attends her elementary school reunion hoping to land a client—but something about the gathering feels off from the very beginning.
Director’s Intent
After the beauty and chaos of school days, graduates embark on their own paths in life. By their 30s, most begin to settle into their identities, standing at the threshold of becoming leaders in society. School reunions are where these individuals—who now live vastly different lives—gather under the single label of “classmate,” seeking comfort, comparison, or perhaps redemption.
This story aims to humorously and insightfully portray the “melting pot” of life experiences, showing what happens when the past meets the present at one such reunion.
Synopsis
Joy Sun, a single mother who left her job as a web designer to become an insurance salesperson after her daughter Sun-mi suddenly fell ill, decides to attend her elementary school reunion for the first time—hoping to sell at least one policy.
As the night progresses, long-buried memories resurface and tension rises among the classmates. Joy’s reason for avoiding past reunions is slowly revealed. Through conversations with former classmates who have taken very different paths in life, Joy begins to reflect on her own journey.
But when a classmate who was bullied in the past shows up unexpectedly and starts drinking heavily, the atmosphere takes a sharp turn. Emotions boil over, and what began as a lighthearted gathering spirals into chaos.
