Summary
In the summer of 1969, in a quiet Korean village, a lonely girl named Gaehwa meets an Imugi, a serpent spirit on the brink of becoming a dragon. But when she witnesses his thousand-year transformation, the moment shatters. The Imugi fails, bound once more to the earth.
Swearing revenge, he instead finds himself drawn to the gentle girl who names him Yeoreum (Summer) and cares for him as no one ever has. In their hidden corner of the world, they become each other’s only companions, mending wounds both ancient and new.
A decade later, Gaehwa encounters Yeoreum again, now a man hiding the truth of who he is. Unaware he is the creature from her youth, she falls into a dreamlike romance that feels both new and impossibly familiar.
By 2024, Gaehwa, now in her twilight years, refuses to leave her rural home, still waiting for the guest who vanished long ago.
This novel is a sweeping Korean fantasy of a love that defies time, conquers death, and shatters the boundaries of the human heart.
