Summary

〈The Egg〉 is a social thriller set in the aftermath of the 2007 Taean oil spill in South Korea.
When the tanker accident contaminates the sea, fishing and tourism—the primary sources of livelihood for the island community—come to a near standstill.
Residents survive day by day, relying on government subsidies and compensation.

The island is home to people in very different circumstances:
a young man burdened with supporting his family,
a village chief who represents the community,
a younger generation that longs to leave the island but remains trapped by reality,
and residents who each endure life after the disaster in their own way.

What they share is the same expectation—
the hope for a turning point that might allow them to escape their present lives.
This expectation is not a concrete plan or a clear solution,
but a vague yet powerful form of hope that spreads throughout the community.

〈The Egg〉 centers on what people choose to believe in a community after disaster,
and how those beliefs lead to decisions and conflicts.
Rather than following a heroic individual narrative,
the film closely observes the fractures and transformations of the community as a whole.
