Summary

〈Unicorn Brothers〉 is a fact-based drama set in early 2000s Tokyo—before the term “K-wave” even existed—following a group of Zainichi Koreans living on the fringes of Kabukicho who begin distributing pirated Korean drama tapes as a means of survival. What starts as a small hustle soon spirals into a cultural tsunami that sweeps across Japan.

Caught between identities—neither fully Korean nor Japanese—these young outsiders stumble upon an unlikely opportunity that ultimately disrupts the Japanese entertainment industry. The series traces their rise through a compelling coming-of-age narrative, blending the nostalgic, retro sensibility of early Hallyu—epitomized by Winter Sonata—with the raw tension of Kabukicho’s underworld. The result is a stylish youth noir with emotional depth and edge.

Written by director-turned-writer Kim Jae-joon, the series delivers a visually driven and tightly woven narrative. Direction is helmed by Lee Hyung-min, best known for Winter Sonata and Strong Woman Do Bong-soon.
