Suicidal Club 1

People usually have a common prejudice that those who commit suicide
and those who attempt suicide are mentally weak. However, as I went
through depression myself and met people in similar circumstances who
shared the same pain, I realized that these thoughts were all prejudiced.
Suicide attempts are associated with severe depression, and since
depression comes from relationships, it's not just an individual problem
in terms of being socially constructed. All these problems start when
the coercive and rigid atmosphere of a society built on strict standards
gives individuals a sense of frustration and defeat. What has made
people's lives unstable is also the reason why social safety nets failed
to protect them.

Current society tends to treat suicide as a personal problem and
focus on the social phenomenon. I believe that personal pain will be
reduced only when genuine interest is taken so that those who make
harsh attempts can understand why they have no choice but to do so.
Through this work, I want to tell the story of people who are driven to
extreme situations and tell them why they have no choice but to make
such a choice. I created the work Suicidal Club because I wanted
to ultimately portray the hope that even individual problems can be
improved gradually if there is genuine interest in society.
