Studio Dragon announced on the 14th that its drama 'Flower of Evil' will be adapted into a theatrical production in Japan. The play, featuring a cast of Japanese actors, is slated to premiere in 2026.
Originally starring Lee Joon-gi, the drama aired on tvN in 2020 and achieved international recognition through platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, ranking in the TOP 10 in 27 countries. In Japan, it was particularly popular, staying in Netflix's series TOP 10 for nine weeks straight.
This stage adaptation is the result of a collaboration between Studio Dragon and Avex Pictures, a branch of Avex known for its expertise in animation and live-action content. Yoo Bong-ryeol, Head of Content Business at Studio Dragon, commented that this initiative demonstrates the potential for developing popular drama IP into various new formats. Studio Dragon is also considering musical adaptations of other renowned series, including 'Crash Landing on You' and 'Vincenzo.'
